HK Indoor Track & Field had a successful season in which two thirds of the boys and girls’ teams qualified for the Conference Championship and about one-third for the State Championship. Nine of our athletes went on to compete at the State Open Championships.
At the Shoreline Conference Championships, the Girls’ squad scored 69 points to place third behind Morgan (75.5) and Old Saybrook (148.5). There were several girls who were awarded Second Team All-Conference in the 55m dash, 4x800m relay, sprint medley relay and long jump. The following week the girls finished 10th at the Class S State Championships. Veronica Chrzanowski advanced to the State Opens in long jump along with the 4x800m team of Lexie Bouthillier, Kelsey D’Amico, Julie Kelly and Emma Anziano. The Boys’ team placed second in the Shoreline Championship with 144 points, being edged out by Old Saybrook by only six points. Many boys were awarded First and Second Team All-Conference in the 1000m, 1600m, and 3200m distance races. The boys also earned First Team All-Conference in the sprint medley relay and shotput. At the Class S State Championships the boys finished in 5th place. Andrew Meredith won the 3200m to earn him another All-State title. That day the 4x800m Relay team of Dan Schumann, Jonah Spector, Conor McCabe and Andrew Meredith set a new school record of 8:19.50. The 4x800m relay qualified for State Opens, as well as Andrew Meredith and Jonah Spector in the 3200m.
